Many local villagers visit Qamea for meke, a traditional Fijian ceremony that is a mix of food, dance, entertainment and song. For many visitors to Fiji and our luxury resort meke is the highlight of their vacation. The meke is followed with music from our own Fijian house band. Throughout the celebrations of the evening you will be invited to share with our band and guests in traditional kava drinking.

The kava drinking or yaqona ceremony has great cultural significance in the South Pacific and in particular Fiji. However it is now also considered a social drink. Yaqona drinking is common in Fijian villages and it is quite normal to see groups of men swapping stories as a half coconut shell or bilo is passed around. Kava is also available to guests at our luxury resort as a social drink.
